360 Died. :(

Postby Midnight on Sun Dec 30, 2007 1:12 am

My 360 appears to have bitten the dust. My son laid it horizontal from vertical - while it was on. The result is that it literally ate 2 discs. The two he got for Christmas. :( He got Guitar Hero 3 and Rockband - over $200 in software - eaten in minutes by this 360.

What do I do? How do I get it fixed?

How do i get the discs replaced?

oh no! thats probably why I have always heard to never stand them up!

Did it eat both discs at once, or is it eating any disc you put in it now? How long have you had the discs? Do they appear scratched at all? I know they do not usually allow you to return software but if they are not scratched perhaps you can take the discs into a store and show them that it does not work, and see if they cannot at least exchange for an identical disc somehow?

You may contact MICROSOFT and just tell them that your 360 MYSTERIOUSLY started eating discs for NO REASON and see what they can do on that end, and maybe try contacting the store (or the individual game manufacturers and tell them that the game you bought for x-mas just does not play MYSTERIOUSLY and FOR NO REASON AT ALL) and see what happens from there.

I have never been in that boat so I don't personally know but hopefully that helps!

I found the following link talking about how the 360 can scratch discs if moved while on. Here is the link, but the part at the bottom is what may help you out:

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/news/Xbox ... atched.htm

At the bottom of the page, the last comment was this:

**Edit 12/04/05 **
I think we should also acknowledge that some users are experiencing scratched discs without moving their console. We have received some direct feedback from a at least two people. I imagine the vast majority are due to moving the console but the mechanics of the problem is the same. The disc spins very close to the pickup and the tray does not prevent the disc from reaching the laser pickup. If you are experiencing scratched discs without moving your console you should contact 1-800-4MYXBOX for warranty support from Microsoft.

Perhaps if you called that number, maybe tell them that your disc was scratched for no reason at all MYSTERIOUSLY and see if they can get them replaced. If you have more than one disc it may sound peculiar to them that both were scratched for no reason so maybe you could wait before calling in the 2nd one or perhaps have someone else make the call to replace the 2nd disc.
